The Russian Defence Ministry has purchased eight multi-role Su-30SM for use by the country’s Navy.
The Naval version of the Su-30SM was revealed recently ahead of the MAKS 2015 show. The carrier based multi-role aircraft is said to be further evolution of the Su-30 fighter.
A statement from Irkut Corporation, the manufacturer of the Su-30SM quoting head of the Russian defence ministry Yuri Borisov said that the contract was signed on Monday.
Terms of the contract involve the supply of the aircraft during 2016-2017. "This will give additional load to the Irkutsk aircraft plant and provide it with economic stability", said Borisov.
