An Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) based on the Mil Mi-38 Helicopter is planned to be set up for the Russian aerospace forces.
"We are planning to start work with Polyot Research and Production Enterprise this year on creating an airborne command post based on the Mi-38 helicopter," Alexei Krivoruchko, deputy defense minister told TASS on Thursday.
According to Krivoruchko, the enterprise currently modernizing the onboard equipment of the Il-22M11 air command center and Tu-124MR airborne relay aircraft.
The Mi-38 medium transport helicopter can be used in a wide range of climatic conditions to carry cargo and passengers, perform search-and-rescue operations, etc.
