Russia To Get 20 Su-35S Jets By The End of 2020

The Russian Aerospace Forces will receive 20 Su-35S 4++ generation fighters by the end of 2020, Deputy Defense Minister Alexey Krivoruchko said Wednesday during his visit to the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant.

"We expect 20 Su-35S fighter jets to be delivered to the Russian Aerospace Forces by the end of 2020," Krivoruchko told TASS.

In 2015, the Russian Air Force and the Russian Aerospace Defence Forces were merged to form the Russian Aerospace Forces.

The minister added that the aircraft was being modernised based on the experience gained during its usage in the Syrian conflict. “The Su-35S jets will be able to use all types of air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles,” he said.

The Su-35S aircraft is a single-seat multi-role attack jet. It is well suited to air superiority missions due to its excellent manoeuverability and thrust vectoring engines to allow it to turn far tighter than a traditional jet aircraft. The Su-35S is fitted with a 30mm cannon for air-to-air dog fighting as well as the capability of carrying rockets, missiles and bombs.
