Sukhoi Su-34 is equipped with 12 hardpoints for the carriage of a range of air-to-surface and air-to-air weaponry, including unguided, or ‘dumb’, weapons. Its modernized variant, the Su-34M, is a supersonic fighter-bomber designed to deliver air strikes against enemy ground targets in operational and tactical depth in conditions of strong opposition. Unlike its predecessor, the aircraft can partially solve the tasks of attack aviation.
The Su-34M upgrade program aims to enhance the jet’s capabilities, with modifications to the radar system, targeting and navigation complex, plus new weapons and reconnaissance equipment.
The Russian Air Force is also testing a new combined reconnaissance and targeting pod, developed under the Sych program, for the aircraft.
Around ten Su-34 jets have been spotted bombing targets in Ukraine of which four have been shot down, as per reports.
