Copenhagen conference held in August 2022.

More than 20 countries that took part in the conference of Northern European Allies in Copenhagen have amassed €1.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine.

The delegations were represented by defense ministers, deputy ministers and other top officials.

Danish defense ministry said in a Twitter post that more than €1.5 billion had been raised for the war-torn country of which Denmark’s contribution is €110 million.

Oleksii Reznikov, Ukraine’s defense ministry, said at the conference that Ukraine has identified several priority groups of capabilities its armed forces should acquire.

“They include: strengthening anti-access and area denial capabilities to protect the northwestern part of the Black Sea, ensuring air defense of large cities and critical infrastructure facilities, protecting the border with Belarus, as well as specific capabilities that we need to stabilize the front line and create conditions for a counteroffensive operation,” the Minister Oleksii Reznikov said.

Support mounts for Ukraine

Estonia has promised to develop a comprehensive military assistance package for Ukraine. Defense minister Hanno Pevkur has held separate meetings with the defense ministers of Ukraine, Sweden, and Great Britain to discuss bilateral cooperation in the field of defense.

The country had already provided Ukraine with military aid worth approximately €245 million. It included Javelin anti-tank missile systems, howitzers, anti-tank grenade launchers, mortars, and other equipment.

Great Britain has handed over an additional M270 multiple launch rocket systems to Kyiv. “UK promised, UK delivered! Our army will skillfully use this ‘replenishment’ at the battlefield,” Reznikov confirmed on Twitter, adding that more ‘gifts’ will arrive soon.

Ukraine has also received four additional Gepard anti-aircraft self-propelled artillery units (SPAAG) from Germany. Berlin has committed to supply 30 Gepard anti-aircraft guns in total.

In addition, over the past few days, 49,000 shells for Gepard anti-aircraft guns and three armored recovery vehicles arrived in Ukraine.
