Havelsan’s “Barkan” unmanned ground vehicle has entered the inventory of Turkey’s security forces.
Barkan will be displayed at the upcoming 16th International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF 2023) in Istanbul from July 25-28.
Havelsan told Turkish media that it took the company 1.5-2 years to test Barkan I, which led to the development of the Barkan II. This newer version exhibits enhanced mobility, nearly doubling its weight capacity and is equipped to carry heavy-class weapons.
The UGV incorporates a 7.62mm weapon system, and there are plans to further explore 40mm grenade launchers, Mete missiles and other missile variants.
Barkan II has a maximum speed of over 13kmph and weighs 900kg without payload. It can operate for >5 hours.
