Ukraine's defense industry is developing a new towed gun, presumably of 155mm caliber, designed to accommodate shells supplied by allies.
Brigadier General Serhii Baranov, who serves as the Head of the Main Missile and Artillery and Unmanned Systems Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, revealed these developments in an interview published on YouTube.
Furthermore, Ukraine is not limiting itself to a single project. In addition to the new towed gun, the nation is actively working on various types of artillery systems. Simultaneously, Ukraine is forging ahead with its missile program, which has yielded promising results.
"The missile program of Ukraine is in motion. Prototypes are already in existence, and rigorous testing is underway," disclosed General Baranov.
General Baranov also announced testing of a Ukrainian long-range missile with a striking range of 700 kilometers. This feat was achieved in late August 2023, underscoring Ukraine's commitment to developing advanced weaponry. General Baranov emphasized the continuous refinement of this missile to enhance its range and precision.
"This is a completely new missile, and we will increase its capabilities in terms of range and accuracy. I think that you will see the result," Baranov confidently stated.
The development of the 2S22 Bohdana artillery system, with a 155mm caliber, commenced in 2016 at the Kramatorsk Heavy Duty Machine Tool Building Plant. An essential aspect of this initiative is the production of Ukrainian steel rifled barrels for these self-propelled guns using domestic equipment.
PJSC Starokramatorsky Machine-Building Plant, located in Kramatorsk, is producing barrels for 122mm artillery systems such as the D-30 and 2S1 Gvozdika in 2020.
