The ASELPOD Targeting Pod, developed by ASELSAN, is on the verge of its final mass production delivery to the Turkish Air Force.
These pods, crafted entirely with national resources, are set to join the Air Force inventory after undergoing acceptance activities. The imminent delivery marks the culmination of the mass production phase.
According to ASELSAN General Manager Ahmet Akyol, the last ASELPOD system will be officially incorporated into the Air Force inventory upon the successful completion of field acceptance. Akyol expressed pride in ASELSAN's role in eliminating foreign dependency in electro optics, reconnaissance, surveillance, and targeting systems.
In addition to serving the Turkish Air Force, the ASELPOD has found its way to international markets. Exported to Pakistan and Iraq, it is employed by JF-17 Thunder warplanes in Pakistan and integrated into L-159 planes in Iraq. Nigeria has also acquired the ASELPOD system, expanding its global reach.
The ASELPOD boasts a range of features, including a high-resolution 3rd generation Thermal Camera (FLIR), Laser Range Finder/Target Marker, Laser Dot Tracking Unit, Laser Illumination Unit, and advanced automatic video target tracker for multiple target tracking. It enables the simultaneous monitoring of Day Camera videos, the recording of Thermal/Day Video, and incorporates advanced image processing algorithms. The system also possesses the capability to calculate precise geographical location information of the target.
As the ASELPOD concludes its successful deployment, ASELSAN looks to the future with the planned initiation of the ASELPOD-2 Project, drawing on the experiences gained from the ASELPOD development.
