The United States State Department has given the green light for a Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the United States (TECRO), involving a Taiwan Advanced Tactical Data Link System Upgrade Planning.

The estimated cost of the sale is $75 million, with the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) formally notifying Congress today.

TECRO's request includes Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Cross Domain Solutions (CDS), High Assurance devices, Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers, communications equipment, requirements analysis, engineering, technical services, and other logistical and program support elements.

The proposed sale aligns with U.S. law and Public Law 96-8, reflecting consistent adherence to established policies. It is seen as supporting U.S. national, economic, and security interests by aiding TECRO in modernizing its armed forces and sustaining a credible defense capability.

The upgrade is expected to enhance Taiwan's ability to address current and future threats by fortifying communications and network security. Additionally, it will facilitate the secure flow of tactical information, contributing to the security, political stability, military balance, and economic progress of the region, the DSCA said in its official press release.

Implementation will involve around 200 U.S. Government personnel and 200 U.S. contractor representatives traveling to the recipient to provide engineering, technical support services, as well as program and technical reviews.
