Tensions in the Middle East intensified on Friday as reports emerged of an Israeli military strike near Isfahan in Iran, with explosions heard in the central province.

Despite the blasts, local media reassured the public that nuclear installations in Isfahan, including the Natanz uranium enrichment center, remained secure and unaffected. Isfahan is also home to a large airbase and a major missile production complex.

The reported strike, which targeted areas in Isfahan province, comes amid escalating threats and warnings exchanged between Iranian and Israeli officials. Iran's Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, had previously cautioned against further Israeli military action, promising a swift and decisive response from Iran.

“If the Israeli regime commits the grave error once again our response will be decisive, definitive and regretful for them,” he told CNN, noting that this warning had been communicated to the White House via the Swiss Embassy in Tehran.

Iran's semi-official Fars news agency, which is close to the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), said explosions were heard near Isfahan International Airport and an army base in Isfahan city, activating local air defence systems.

The development comes days after Iran unleashed more than 300 drones and missiles in its first-ever direct attack on Israel, exposing a long-standing shadow war between the two nations to the public eye.

Efforts to de-escalate the crisis have been ongoing within the international community, with calls for restraint and diplomacy to prevent further escalation.

Israeli authorities have not yet commented officially on the reported strike near Isfahan.
