Russia has officially announced the cancellation of the popular International Aviation and Space Salon (MAKS) and continuation of the International Military-Technical Forum (ARMY) in 2024.

While the MAKS cancellation has got to do with the Ukraine war amidst fears of Kyiv's drones and saboteurs reaching the doorstep of the prestigious event, the ARMY show has become the favorite arena to showcase Russian military prowess.

The show has been held without break during the last three years and without any security-related incident.

The show encompasses land systems such as tanks and artillery, air-defense and drones. A live demonstration of tanks, armored vehicles and artillery equipment is held as part of the show.

A separate exhibition is held as part of the ARMY event to showcase aircraft and helicopters at the Kubinka airfield a short distance away from the Patriot Park where the ARMY show is held.

An announcement made on the official ARMY 2024 website says that the event will be held during August 12-18. Some 1500 Russian and foreign companies are expected to participate with 28,000 exhibits.

This year, the organizers are inviting foreign companies to be part of the Russian defense-equipment supply chain.

A notice posted on the ARMY 2024 event page says, "If you would like to have your product included in the supply chain in Russian industrial and defense products, (then) ‘ARMY-2024’ could become your best opportunity to demonstrate your products and negotiate directly with the representatives of Russian defense and civil industries."

The Russian MoD and industries invite representatives from potential customer-countries to the ARMY show.

At last year’s edition of the show, military and civil officials from several countries in Africa, Middle East and Asia could be seen at the venue. Russian arms exporting agency, Rosoboronexport later announced that $500 million in current and potential sales had been clinched at the event.
