Poland has officially joined a coalition aimed at bolstering Ukraine's defense capabilities through the provision of drones at the NATO summit in Washington.
Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister V. Kosiniak-Kamysh, along with 12 ministers, signed a memorandum outlining Poland's commitment to the coalition, which includes a diverse array of countries such as Australia, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Latvia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine itself.
The memorandum underscores the coalition's primary objective: to supply the Ukrainian military with drones crucial for their operational needs. This initiative is seen as a critical enhancement to Ukraine's defense infrastructure amidst ongoing security challenges. Kosiniak-Kamysh emphasized the urgency of this support, highlighting drones as a pivotal capability in Ukraine's defense strategy.
Key aspects of the coalition's efforts include not only the donation of drones but also the active involvement of coalition member countries' industries in manufacturing drones tailored to Ukrainian requirements. Funding mechanisms have been established to facilitate the procurement and delivery of these drones to Ukraine, ensuring swift and effective deployment.
In a related development, Kosiniak-Kamysh has reportedly stated that Poland will not shoot down Russian missiles over Ukraine without NATO consent.
