Russian forces launched a large-scale missile and drone assault targeting energy facilities across Ukraine on Monday morning, August 26.
"The desire to destroy our energy sector will cost the Russians dearly for their infrastructure," Kyivpost reported quoting Andriy Yermak, head of the Office of the President of Ukraine.
In response to the attack, Ukrenergo has implemented implement emergency blackouts nationwide.
Explosions were heard in different districts of the capital besides in cities and regions across Ukraine, including Kharkiv, Kryvyi Rih, Kropyvnytskyi, Dnipro, Khmelnytskyi, and Vinnytsia.
The Russian military launched missiles from the Caspian Sea, with aircraft taking off from airfields in Engels, Diaghilev, Olenya, and Shaikovka. Additionally, missiles were launched from Black Sea carriers, and a massive raid by Russian attack drones was reported in various regions, including Rivne, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Poltava, Chernihiv, and Sumy.
“At this moment, a massive combined missile strike is being launched against strategically important energy and military facilities in the "independent" country using 70-100 stealth strategic Kh-101 cruise missiles, long-range tactical 9M728 cruise missiles of the Iskander-M complex, and more than 10 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aeroballistic missiles,”The Russian Weapons Telegram Channel reported.
Objects in Kiev, Zhulyany, Vinnytsia, Lutsk, Sumy, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, etc. are under attack. Water and electricity supply has been partially disrupted in the cities. A classic strike was launched against the Starokostiantyniv airfield. It is still unknown whether strikes will be launched against the bridges across the Dnieper, which are the central logistics hubs for the supply of the Left-Bank group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
