Russia on Monday attacked Ukrainian energy facilities including power and gas generation and storage points even as Kyiv claimed the attacks were aimed at civilian targets.
The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation launched a series of strikes using long-range air and sea-based precision weaponry, Operational-Tactical Aviation, and 81 Shahed-type attack drones.
These attacks targeted key Ukrainian defense infrastructure, including power substations, compressor stations, and Western-supplied aircraft armament depots. The strikes caused power outages and disrupted rail transport of arms, according to a statement from the Russian Defence Ministry.
Ukrainian defenses intercepted five Kh-101 missiles and 60 drones, but the attacks injured five civilians and damaged homes and infrastructure. In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, three were killed and 13 injured, while Kharkiv Oblast saw four injuries from an Iskander missile and Kherson Oblast reported one death and ten injuries. Kostiantynivka and Khmelnytskyi also sustained damage. Meanwhile, the Polish Air Force scrambled jets for the second night as Russian drones approached Polish airspace, according to Kyiv Independent.
Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk Said "Russian forces launched three Kinzhal ballistic missiles from MiG-31K aircraft, five Kh-101 cruise missiles from Tu-95MS bombers, one Iskander-M ballistic missile, and one Iskander-K cruise missile."
The Polish Air Force scrambled its fighter jets as Russia attacked western Ukrainian regions. The Polish military said that a Russian drone may have entered Polish airspace during a previous attack on Aug. 26.
