Austal USA Wins $450M to Expand Submarine Module Production
Virginia-class fast-attack submarine USS Texas (SSN 775)

Austal USA has secured a contract valued at $450 million from General Dynamics Electric Boat to enhance its submarine module production capabilities.

This agreement, part of efforts to strengthen the U.S. Navy's Submarine Industrial Base (SIB), will fund the development of a new module fabrication and outfitting facility at Austal's Mobile, Alabama shipyard.

The facility will support the construction of Columbia-class and Virginia-class submarines, helping the U.S. Navy meet its target of delivering one Columbia-class and two Virginia-class submarines annually. Construction is expected to begin in the autumn of 2024, with completion scheduled for 2026.

Once fully operational, the facility will create approximately 1,000 jobs and significantly expand Austal USA’s ability to fabricate, outfit, and transport submarine components.
