The Hydro Oceanographic Auxiliary Ship (BHO), a collaboration between Indonesia's Ministry of Defense and Germany's Abeking & Rasmussen, was launched at PT Palindo Marine's pier in Batam on September 24.
The construction contract for the BHO (Ocean Going) ship was awarded to Abeking & Rasmussen, while the platform construction was executed by PT Palindo Marine under an offset agreement facilitated by Indonesia's Ministry of Defense. The ship is designed for hydro-oceanographic surveys and mapping operations.
The shipbuilding project began with the initial steel cutting on September 15, 2023, followed by the keel laying ceremony on December 14, 2023. The ship’s launch ceremony included the symbolic cutting of the tross rope and pressing of the siren button, followed by remarks from key defense officials.
After the ceremony, the ship will be transported to Germany for the installation of oceanographic equipment at the Abeking & Rasmussen shipyard.
The BHO (Ocean Going) ship is designed for surveying coastal areas, shallow waters, and the open ocean using high-resolution underwater sensors capable of reaching depths of 600 to 11,000 meters. The vessel is equipped with a helipad capable of supporting helicopters up to 12 tons, as well as 20mm and 12.7mm cannons. It also features advanced maneuvering and surveillance systems. The 3,419-ton ship has a maximum speed of 16 knots, a 60-day endurance period, and can accommodate 90 personnel.
