The Indonesian Navy’s KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai (GNR)-332 Martadinata-class frigate has arrived at Kuru Pier, HMAS Coonawara Naval Base in Darwin after a 440 nautical mile journey from Kupang.
This voyage was part of the Kakadu 2024 Multilateral Exercise.
The maintenance and repair of KRI GNR-332 were conducted by PT PAL Indonesia’s Irian Dock, starting August 20, 2024. This refurbishment process was initiated by the Indonesian Minister of Defense, Prabowo Subianto, and aimed at enhancing the ship’s operational capabilities.
During the refurbishment, upgrades were made to the 105-meter light frigate, which was constructed by PT PAL Indonesia in collaboration with a Dutch partner. The ship underwent hull repainting, propulsion system repairs, navigation capability enhancements, and maintenance of vital components such as the sonar dome, speed log, echosounder, ICCP, ICAF, sea chest, and seawater valves. These upgrades are intended to ensure the ship’s optimal performance in strategic missions.
The KRI GNR-332 will engage in several activities in Darwin from September 9 to September 21, 2024. The schedule includes the Harbor Phase (September 9-12), Sea Phase (September 12-19), and the Hot Washup and Closing Ceremony (September 19-21). The exercise will feature various scenarios, including GUNEX, ADEX, CASEX, and Freeplay, aimed at improving the ship's operational capabilities and enhancing international military cooperation.
