The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) declared it has accomplished its military objectives in Lebanon, opening the door for the Israeli government to pursue a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing conflict in the north.
The IDF's Northern Command reported that most of Hezbollah's terror infrastructure near the Lebanon-Israel border has been dismantled, with many weapons confiscated or destroyed. However, operations remain unfinished in several Lebanese villages, requiring further efforts from Shin Bet and IDF intelligence to neutralize potential threats.
This raises concerns about the conflict's future if a diplomatic resolution is not achieved. The IDF may continue military pressure through ground maneuvers and airstrikes or maintain a prolonged presence in southern Lebanon, possibly expanding control over more villages.
IDF officials stated that a framework is needed to enforce calm in southern Lebanon, raising questions about whether enforcement would occur from Israeli territory or within Lebanon.
In a related development, Hamas has confirmed its willingness to engage with mediators regarding new proposals for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri stated that the movement has participated in several discussions and plans to hold additional meetings.
In a press conference, Abu Zuhri expressed Hamas’s openness to any agreements that could alleviate the hardships faced by the Palestinian people in Gaza. He outlined key objectives, including the establishment of a permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of occupation forces from the Strip, the lifting of the blockade, humanitarian relief efforts, support for reconstruction, and negotiating a significant prisoner exchange.
