Lockheed Martin has announced its latest technology demonstration, the Tactical Satellite (TacSat), set for launch in 2025 aboard a Firefly Aerospace Alpha rocket.

This self-funded initiative will highlight sensing and communications capabilities critical to modern space operations.

Designed as an intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) platform, TacSat will participate in cross-domain exercises, demonstrating its ability to enhance kill-web connectivity and support tactical space missions.

Paul Koether, Lockheed Martin’s director of tactical space, emphasized the significance of TacSat, stating, “This area of focus is especially important to the future of space as it becomes a more contested environment. We’re thrilled to be one step closer to displaying game-changing communications and sensing in the ultimate high ground.”

Key Technologies Onboard

  • Infrared Sensing: Equipped with a proven Lockheed Martin sensor, TacSat delivers high-quality imagery and integrates seamlessly with BMC2 systems for comprehensive threat awareness.
  • 5G.MIL  Payload: Introduces cellular-like networking for space assets, enhancing resilience and enabling seamless connectivity across air, sea, and land.

After completing rigorous environmental testing and final checkouts at Lockheed Martin’s Littleton, Colorado facility, TacSat is preparing for shipment to its California launch site. Final processing will occur there before its anticipated 2025 liftoff.
