Sweden’s Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has awarded Saab a SEK 466 million ($42 million) contract to enhance the Gripen C/D fighter fleet, including updates to air-to-air and air-to-ground missile systems.
The Saab contract includes updates and studies related to air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles. Stockholm’s Gripen C/D jets currently operate with weapons such as the MBDA Meteor missile, Raytheon AIM-120 AMRAAM, Diehl IRIS-T, Boeing GBU-39 bombs, and Saab’s RBS 15 anti-ship missile. Saab also highlighted plans to integrate new missile systems as part of Sweden’s broader defense strategy.
Additionally, the FMV acquired three secondhand Bombardier Learjet 60s from the U.S. to replace aging Learjet 35 aircraft used for target-towing and electronic warfare training. The aircraft, delivered within ten months of selection, will undergo modifications before entering service at Malmen air base near Linkoping.
