The Polish Navy has signed a contract for the acquisition of a rescue ship under the "Ratownik" program.
The agreement was finalized on December 27, at the Naval Academy in Gdynia. Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Deputy Minister Paweł Bejda participated in the signing ceremony.
The contract outlines a timeline for the construction of the rescue ship, with sheet metal cutting scheduled to begin 12 months after signing. The keel-laying is expected two months later, and the vessel's launch is planned for 2027.
This rescue ship is designed as a support unit equipped with specialized systems to aid submarine rescue operations. It represents a continuation of Poland's naval modernization efforts, following the addition of multi-purpose frigates under Project 106 (MIECZNIK) and minehunters under Project 258 (KORMORAN II). All construction will be carried out in domestic shipyards.
"This ship will ensure the safety of sailors operating in the Baltic Sea and provide assistance to civilian vessels when necessary," said Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz.
