Ukraine carried out one of the largest drone and missile attacks on Russian territory since 2022, targeting fuel and gas facilities besides an arms production site across seven regions of Russia, some as far as 1200 km from the front.
Some 200 attack drones, American-supplied ATACMS missiles, and British-made Storm Shadow missiles were used, report said.
Notable targets struck included the Orgsintez chemical plant in Kazan and the Saratov oil refinery, with reports confirming fires at these locations. Over 100 drones were involved, with significant impacts including explosions and fires in regions like Tula, Rostov, and Voronezh.
Flight restrictions were introduced at the airports of Kazan, Kaluga, Saratov, Tambov, Penza, Nizhnekamsk and Ulyanovsk. In the suburbs of Kazan, after a drone attack, a gas tank caught fire near the Kazan Orgsintez plant.
There were no reports of large scale destruction of the facilities or human casualties.
The Russian MoD said in a statement:
"Tonight, an attempt was made from the territory of Ukraine to launch a missile strike at targets in the Bryansk region with six US-made ATACMS operational-tactical missiles, six UK-made Storm Shadow air-launched cruise missiles and 31 aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles," the ministry said in a statement.
"During the air battle, all air attack weapons were shot down by air defense crews. There were no casualties or injuries," the department said. Two more Storm Shadow air-launched cruise missiles were shot down over the Black Sea.
Russian military shot down 146 Ukrainian drones outside the special operation zone in one day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday
