Finland’s Patria has completed test firings of its new ARVE (ARtillery on VEhicle) mobile artillery and surveillance system, designed for Arctic operations and extreme field conditions.

The trials took place in June 2025, following the system’s official unveiling in March at the Patria Arctic Event in Lapland.

The ARVE prototype integrates the 155K98 155 mm field gun onto a Sisu E13TP 8×8 truck chassis, creating a self-propelled howitzer platform with increased mobility and rapid deployment capabilities. The system is developed and manufactured in Finland and is compatible with both Finnish and NATO-standard ammunition and fire control systems.

During the live-fire tests, Patria confirmed the system fired dozens of rounds at various traverse and elevation angles, including high-pressure charges. According to the company, all performance benchmarks were met and remained stable throughout testing.

The prototype is manually loaded and laid, and features a maximum firing range of 40 km using base bleed ammunition. It can deliver up to 8 rounds per minute, with a burst capability of 3 rounds in 15 seconds, and holds 24 rounds onboard. The crew of six can bring the system to fire-ready status within 90 seconds and relocate within 45 seconds after firing.

Key specifications include a length of 11.5 m, width of 2.6 m, height of 3.5 m, and combat weight of 28 tonnes. The Sisu truck platform is powered by a 500 hp engine, with a top speed of 100 km/h and a range of 600 km. The vehicle can operate on 30° slopes and ford up to 1 m of water without preparation.

Patria stated that development efforts are ongoing and will focus on integrating automatic gun laying, loading systems, and computerized fire control.
