Raytheon and the U.S. Air Force Air Combat Command have performed the longest recorded launch of an AIM-120 AMRAAM missile from an F-22 fighter aircraft.

The flight test was conducted in autumn 2024 in Florida's airspace above Eglin Air Force Base, the company announced on September 16. The firm has not released the actual range obtained. The launch was carried out under the form, fit, function refresh (F3R) program of the Air Force to improve the performance of the missile, as claimed by Raytheon.

The AIM-120 AMRAAM is a medium-range, supersonic air-to-air missile employed as a primary weapon in Western fighter aircraft. It is mounted on 14 platforms.

The company also stated the tests showed an increased time of flight, which again established the missile's participation in the support of fifth-generation aircraft.

Since over three decades, AMRAAM has been employed in air-to-air and surface-to-air operations. It has been utilized in live combat and executed over 6,000 live fires.
