General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) has been awarded a contract worth approximately €3 billion by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) to supply the German Army’s next-generation reconnaissance vehicle, named Luchs 2.
The Luchs 2 will replace the Fennek 4x4 reconnaissance vehicle currently in service with the Bundeswehr’s Army Reconnaissance Corps. Based on the Piranha 6x6 wheeled vehicle platform, the system will feature amphibious capability, networked reconnaissance sensors, and reduced acoustic and thermal signatures to enhance stealth and survivability in modern combat environments.
The contract also covers training systems, simulators, and logistical support, ensuring complete readiness once deliveries begin.
