Israel Marks 1,000th Air Train Arrival In Wartime Supply Operation

Israel marked a key milestone in its wartime logistics effort on Wednesday as the 1,000th aircraft in the Ministry of Defense’s “Air Train” landed at Ben-Gurion Airport carrying military equipment.

The Challenge Israel aircraft was received by Ministry of Defense Director General Maj. Gen. (res.) Amir Baram.

The Ministry of Defense and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been operating what officials describe as a transcontinental transportation network since the start of the war. Authorities say the operation is the largest of its kind since the country’s establishment, aimed at sustaining current and future IDF requirements.

According to the ministry, more than 120,000 tons of equipment — including ammunition, weapons, armored vehicles, medical supplies, communications systems, and protective gear — have been delivered to Israel via 1,000 aircraft and roughly 150 ships.

The effort is led jointly by the Defense Procurement Administration’s International Defense Transportation Unit, procurement teams in the U.S. and Berlin, the IDF’s Planning and Force Building Division, and the Israeli Air Force.

Baram thanked Israel’s Airports Authority, the Civil Aviation Authority, and partner companies for supporting what he described as a national-level effort. Officials say the air and sea routes are central to maintaining the IDF’s operational continuity and replenishing emergency stockpiles.

Maj. Gen. (res.) Amir Baram said, “Over the past two years, the Ministry of Defense has been leading a tremendous effort to ensure the supply of combat equipment, industrial equipment, technology, and everything else needed to enable the IDF to fight and win. The 1,000th aircraft that landed today is another link in the strategic supply chain for the State of Israel.”

He added, “We will continue to operate, in accordance with the Ministry of Defense’s strategy, in two parallel efforts: on the one hand, strengthening the production base in Israeli industry in order to ensure production independence, and on the other hand, strengthening cooperation and political and security relations with allies around the world, in order to be able to maintain such an air train, both in routine and emergency situations, and to strengthen the IDF with more combat capabilities.”
