U.S. Approves $3.73B Missile, Air Defense Sale to Denmark

The U.S. State Department has approved a combined $3.73 billion Foreign Military Sale to Denmark covering air-to-air missiles plus an integrated ground-based air defense system, with Congress formally notified.

One package, valued at $730 million, includes 200 AIM-120C-8 air-to-air missiles and three additional guidance sections. The request also covers control sections, containers, spare parts, consumables, repair support, weapons software, classified and unclassified software delivery, publications, transportation, plus U.S. government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics services. The principal contractor is RTX Corporation.

In a separate notification, Washington also approved a $3 billion sale for an Integrated Battle Command System with Indirect Fire Protection Capability. Denmark requested 24 All Up Round Magazines, eight launchers, two Sentinel A4 radars with Integrated Battle Command System, two engagement operations centers, two integrated collaborative environments, and six fire control network relays.

The broader air defense package includes reload vehicles, encrypted communications systems, GPS receivers, radio sets, Identification Friend or Foe equipment, network encryptors, generators, training systems, test tools, spare parts, publications, field support teams, personnel training, systems integration, and logistics support.

The principal contractors for the air defense program are RTX Corporation, Lockheed Martin, Leidos, and Northrop Grumman.

Both sales were certified to Congress by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) following approval by the U.S. State Department.
