Diehl Defence has received an order from the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration for additional launchers for the IRIS-T SLS short-range ground-based air defence system.

The contract also includes a logistics package with spare parts.

Sweden already operates the missile’s air-to-air variant on its Gripen fighter aircraft. It fields the short-range ground-based IRIS-T SLS system and, in June 2025, decided to procure seven units of the medium-range IRIS-T SLM system.

The IRIS-T SLS system covers short-range and very-short-range air defence. It uses the standard IRIS-T air-to-air missile in its original form. The missile’s manoeuvrability enables engagement of targets approaching from any direction, including aircraft, helicopters, and incoming missiles.
