Turkey and Spain have signed a €2.6 billion ($3 billion) agreement under which the Spanish Air and Space Force will procure 30 Hürjet light training jets.
The deal follows a memorandum of understanding signed in mid-May and a cooperation accord reached in July between Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) and Airbus during negotiations. Spain has contracted Airbus to deliver the aircraft under its Integrated Training System – Combat programme, as disclosed in Spanish government budget documents.
Spain’s Directorate General for Armament and Material awarded a €1.56 billion sole-source contract on 23 December, running through November 2032. Turkish officials said the overall project budget of €2.6 billion suggests options for up to 15 additional aircraft at a later stage.
The package covers ground-based simulation and training systems, maintenance-support infrastructure and long-term operational support.
Deliveries are expected to continue through 2036.
The single-engine, tandem-seat Hürjet is designed for advanced training and light combat roles, with a reported maximum speed of Mach 1.4, a service ceiling of about 45,000 feet and a payload capacity of around 3,400 kilograms.
