Poland has signed a NOK 16 billion ($1.67 billion) contract with Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and consortium partner Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) to procure 18 counter-unmanned aerial system batteries.
The contract was signed on Jan. 30, 2026, between the Polish Armaments Agency and the Kongsberg–PGZ consortium under the SAN CUAS programme. The batteries will include multiple effectors such as 35 mm, 30 mm and 12.7 mm guns, missiles, interceptor drones and other means to counter aerial threats.
PGZ subcontractor Advanced Protection Systems will provide a tailored command-and-control architecture to integrate sensors and effectors and connect SAN CUAS with Poland’s national air defence capabilities.
Kongsberg stated it plans to invest in expanding manufacturing capacity in Poland as part of the deliveries.
The SAN CUAS solution is based on Kongsberg’s PROTECTOR family of weapon systems, including the Medium Caliber Turret MCT30 and remote weapon stations. The MCT30 is in full-rate production and features an unmanned, lightweight and fully digitalised design suited for counter-UAS roles.
For the SAN programme, the primary weapon on the PROTECTOR remote weapon stations will be 70 mm guided missiles. Kongsberg said it will work with APS and PGZ to enable flexible sensor and effector integration across vehicles and sub-systems, supporting distributed operations.
