Diehl Defence has showcased the Ziesel Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) equipped with the PLATON autonomy kit at Enforce Tac in Nürnberg.
The Ziesel, based on a platform from Mattro, is a compact, highly maneuverable infantry support vehicle. It measures 1.6 x 1.3 meters, weighs 380 kg, and can carry over 500 kg of equipment, moving easily through rough terrain, forests, and narrow paths alongside soldiers. Fully electric with 11 kWh lithium-ion batteries, it can reach speeds of up to 20 km/h while operating quietly.
According to Diehl Defence, its PLATON autonomy kit allows the UGV to operate in follow-me mode without relying on detectable sensors like LiDAR or GPS. The system enables the vehicle to navigate obstacles, transport equipment, and evacuate injured personnel.
PLATON can also be integrated into larger vehicles, including the RMMV HX2, Patria AMV, Patria 6x6, and the THeMIS from Milrem Robotics, with further integrations planned for 2026.
The Ziesel UGV is currently being tested by armed forces in Germany and Ukraine.
