One person was killed and two others were seriously wounded on Monday after an Iranian missile carrying a cluster warhead struck central Israel, according to emergency services and local media reports.
The strike hit areas including Yehud and Or Yehuda, where three construction workers were outside protected spaces when the missile fragments landed. According to medical officials cited by The Times of Israel, two men in their 40s were critically injured by shrapnel at a construction site in Yehud, with one later dying from his wounds. Another worker in Or Yehuda was seriously injured and taken to hospital.
The cluster warhead impacted several locations across central Israel, including Holon and Bat Yam. Images from the affected areas showed craters in the ground and damage to vehicles and nearby buildings.
Eyewitnesses described collapsed safe rooms, buildings filled with dust and residents providing improvised first aid after the strike, according to Haaretz. Air raid sirens sounded across parts of the country as Iranian missile fire continued during the day.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) released video footage showing the destruction of the launcher used in the attack shortly after the missile strike. Later on Monday, the IDF said the Israeli Air Force carried out a wave of strikes on dozens of Iranian regime targets, including facilities linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps responsible for unmanned aerial vehicles.
Separately, rockets and drones launched by the Iran-backed Hezbollah group targeted northern Israel. According to Haaretz, a Hezbollah launch later on Monday wounded four people in Ramla and caused damage in Beit Shemesh, where air raid sirens were not activated.
