Iran and Pakistan are seeking to jointly manufacture defense equipment, Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces said during his visit to Islamabad.

The top military commander Major General Mohammad Baqeri said that the two countries are looking to enhance defense relations and are working on jointly building defense products and present them as joint achievement. He made the remarks following a meeting with Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain, Press TV reported Tuesday.

The Iranian general said that during his visit, he had discussed with Pakistani officials topics such as military education, pilot training, military drills and contacts between the two countries’ defense industries.

Iran has developed its defense industry under US sanctions, while Pakistan has developed a number of defense equipment with technological help from China.

The two officials discussed ways to bolster maritime cooperation between Iran and Pakistan and increase joint naval maneuvers.

Baqeri arrived in Pakistan on Monday for an official visit to the country.
