Spain Contracts Rheinmetall for 81mm Eimos Mortar Systems
Framework agreement valued at €150M includes training and maintenance for the Spanish Armed Forces.
The Spanish government has officially contracted Rheinmetall to supply 84 units of the 81mm Eimos mortar systems, a deal valued at approximately €150 million.
The framework agreement was signed with Rheinmetall subsidiary Rheinmetall Expal Munitions and encompasses maintenance and training components for the Spanish Armed Forces.
Deliveries of the mortar systems are scheduled between late 2024 and the end of 2027, with the order expected to be recorded at the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2024.
The 81mm Eimos mortar systems are platform-based and are intended for use across the Spanish Army, Navy, and Air Force. The acquisition is part of the UTEX program, initiated by the Spanish Ministry of Defence in 2017, which has been testing various tactical light vehicles compatible with the mortar systems.
