The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) has upgraded the UH-60 helicopter simulator used by the South Korean Army, enhancing its training capabilities for tactical and emergency situations.
The modernization project, completed on March 26, focused on improving the image system, integrating satellite-based terrain data, and upgrading hardware for faster startup and better performance. The upgraded simulator provides a realistic flight experience using three-dimensional imaging, allowing pilots to train for air combat, adverse weather, and system failures while reducing operational costs.
The older simulators, deployed in 2000 and 2008, faced issues such as outdated visuals, discontinued components, and rising maintenance costs. The recent upgrade replaces all image generation systems, improves screen resolution, reduces startup time from 30 to 10 minutes, and applies new components for better reliability and domestic maintenance.
