Rheinmetall has secured a comprehensive contract package from General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) for the German Army’s ‘Luchs 2’ reconnaissance vehicle.
This marks the first major order for its new CT-025 medium-calibre unmanned turret system. The contract, signed in Kaiserslautern in early February 2026, is valued in the mid three-digit million-euro range.
GDELS is the prime contractor for the Bundeswehr’s Luchs 2 programme, with vehicle deliveries scheduled to begin in 2029.
Under the agreement, Rheinmetall will supply 274 CT-025 turrets by 2031, along with the main armament and advanced simulation systems.
According to Rheinmetall, The bulk of the work will be carried out by Rheinmetall Electronics GmbH in Bremen, while Rheinmetall Italia S.p.A. in Rome will manufacture the proven Oerlikon KBA 25 mm automatic cannon, the turret’s primary weapon.
Rheinmetall will also supply six AGFS combat simulators for reconnaissance training, with the first system due in mid-2028, and integrate the AGDUS laser-based live simulation system into the new vehicle fleet.
The CT-025 is a modular, unmanned turret equipped with stabilised optics and a digital fire-control system, enabling precise engagement of ground and aerial threats, including drones.
It is armed with the proven Oerlikon KBA 25 mm automatic cannon, offering up to 600 rounds per minute and a 2,500-metre range, with compatibility for multiple 25x137 mm ammunition types, including proximity-fused rounds for effective action against armoured vehicles and UAVs.
